NORTH GLASGOW FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT GROUP HOSTS MINI TOURNAMENT WITH SENSE OVER SECTARIANISM
Around 200 spectators watched 8; under 10 and under 11, teams take part in the inaugural North Glasgow Football Development Group/Sense over Sectarianism 7 a side Mini Tournament on Sunday.
The tournament was held at North Kelvinside pitches in North West Glasgow on Sunday 13th August. Teams from Blantyre to Bearsden took part against the NGFDG Under 10 and Under 11 teams who are known as North Kelvin Utd.
The excellent weather contributed to a great tournament, which caught the imagination of local people and team supporters alike. The standard of play was excellent and the games were played with a tremendous sense of fair play with Westerton Utd and Broomhill Sports Club winning the Fair Play trophies in their respective age groups.
The tournament winners in the Under 10 group were Blantyre Boys Club and in the Under 11 group Shawfield Sports Club ran out worthy winners. The hosts were proud to provide the players of the tournament with Cameron McGuire and Robyn Alexander of North Kelvin Utd being the top performers on the day.
Pauline Robertson, assistant Coach of United U10’s said, “ what a great experience for these children” and David Kelly, club secretary for the North Glasgow Football Development Group stated, “ the success of this tournament shows just how important these pitches are to the community and the benefits of young people taking part in sport”.
The NGFDG host weekly coaching sessions every Sunday Morning at 11 am until 12.30 pm from the 20th August at the North Kelvinside Pitches on Queen Margaret Drive. All children of primary School age are welcome to come along. All the children need to bring along with them is suitable clothing and footwear and 50p.
